Most mattresses made around 2007 and after contain toxic flame-retardant (FR) chemicals — and so do many made before. The CPSC requires all mattresses to pass an extreme open-flame blowtorch test lasting over one minute. Passing that test requires very toxic chemicals. There are no labeling requirements, so misinformation is widespread.
